Free and Reduced Price School Meals

Free and Reduced price meals are available to children whose families' gross income falls at or below the USDA income eligibility guidelines for that fiscal year. If your family chooses to apply,  please complete a "Free and Reduced Meal Application Form." The forms can be obtained and returned (completed) to any school office. You will be notified by mail of your child's status. Until notification you must provide your child with a lunch or lunch money.

Only complete one application per family. The information you give will be used to determine or prove your child's eligibility for free or reduced-priced meals. This information may also be used for other state or federally funded school benefits. Therefore, we must have your signature on the application to allow us to share this information. The last four digits of your social security number must also be included to complete the application. We can not approve an application that is not complete.
Factors considered in the application process:
HOUSEHOLD SIZE is considered all persons, related or unrelated: Including parents, children, grandparents who live in the home and share living expenses.
HOUSEHOLD INCOME is the income each household member received last month before taxes. This includes wages, social security, pension, unemployment, welfare support, alimony, and any other cash income.
We will notify you by mail when your application has been processed as either approved or denied. If approved, your benefits will begin when you receive notification in the mail, however previous charges for meals purchased must be paid. If denied, you will be responsible to pay back any charges for meals purchased and will need funds available on the lunch account to purchase future meals. Each new school year a new application must be submitted for approval with the new updated USDA income guidelines.
Direct Certification
The Ohio Department of Education, Office for Child Nutrition, provides school districts the opportunity of directly certifying enrolled students for free meal benefits in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. The school district will complete the direct certification process by using an online secure Direct Certification software system with ODE to complete the direct certification match process. ODE will publish an updated Ohio Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formally the Food Stamp program) list into the system once a month to update the students who are eligible to be directly certified.
If you receive a notification letter that your child has been directly certified for free meals, you will not need to fill out a paper application to receive benefits for the present school year.

School Fee Waiver Important Notice
Under Ohio Law, children who receive assistance are eligible for a waiver of student fees. This does not apply to any fees that may be charged for extracurricular activities, fines, field trips, school pictures, parking fees, or lunch charges. To waive your child's school instructional fees, we must have your permission to share your meal application information with school officials if your child(ren)qualifies for a fee waiver. The school meals application for free or reduce meals now has a space provided for you to give permission for your child(ren)'s information to be shared with school officials. Please check the box "yes" on the application if you give your permission to share the information for the approval of fees waived or check the box "no" if you do not wish for that information to be shared. Answering no to this question will mean your child will not be considered for a fee waiver. Answering this question either way will not change whether your child(ren) will get free or reduced price meals.
