Delaware City Schools follows the National School Lunch Program for school meals.
Healthy school meals are prepared and served by ServSafe certified food service staff. These child nutrition professionals provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the state and federal nutrition standards for school meals.
What is included in a Full Lunch?
Lunch includes a choice of entree, (supplying protein and whole grain rich grains), up to two vegetable sides, 1 fruit choice and a milk. High School students may have an additional fruit to meet their nutrition requirements. Milk choices include 1% white, fat free white and chocolate milk.
Eating a school lunch everyday provides more vitamins and minerals, higher intake of milk and dairy, and twice the servings of fruits and vegetables when choosing a school lunch!
All portion sizes are age specific in the recommended serving sizes for each age group. Students may decline up to two food groups but must choose at least a 1/2 cup serving of fruit or vegetable on their tray. Assorted fresh fruits and fresh veggies including hummus are offered daily as part of the lunch!
