  • Breakfast is available each morning in all school buildings. All students are welcome to join us for the most important meal of the day to help children be ready to learn. The price is $1.50 for breakfast which includes two breakfast items, a fruit or juice and a milk. The breakfast meal plan is designed to meet 1/4 of the RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowances) for key nutrients for breakfast.  Meal benefits provide a reduced breakfast for $.30 cents or free for those who qualify.
  • Lunch is available at all grade levels. The meals are based on the guidelines set by the National School Lunch Program to assure only nourishing, well-balanced meals are served to children. The minimum standards for the National School Lunch Program requires meals to include:
    • 1/3 of the Recommended Dietary Allowances for protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A and vitamin C.
    • Provide 1/3 of the calories needed by growing children based on the appropriate age/grade group.
    • Limit calories from total fat to no more than 30% of total calories.
    • Limit calories from unsaturated fat to no more than 10% of total calories.
    • Schools are also encouraged to reduce the level of cholesterol, moderate the use of salt and increase fiber in the meals.
  • One of our department's primary goals has been to teach students they have the power to make healthy choices. We provide assistance to choose healthy choices by implementing the Snackwise Nutrition Rating System developed by The Borden Center for Nutrition and Wellness at Children's Hospital. This program rates the overall nutritional quality of snack foods and breakfast foods with a rating of "best choice", "choose occasionally", or "choose rarely". Snackwise is based on the current Dietary Guidelines for nutrient density of snack foods for healthier snack choices and  uses eleven parameters; calories, fat, saturated fat & trans fat, sodium, fiber, sugar, protein, Vitamin A and C, calcium and iron. Each of our snacks used in the breakfast program and served with our lunches is coded for a "red", "yellow", or "green" rating. We do not serve a red "choose rarely" product with our meals, however, only a very few are available for ala carte purchase.
  • Summer Food Service is available when school is out for the summer! Delaware City Schools in partnership with Andrew's House and the Woodward Family Resource Center offers FREE nutritious meals and summer activities to all neighborhood children ages 18 years and younger on the Woodward Elementary Playground between the hours of 12:00pm through 1:00pm each day.
